Here are a few things I’ve learned over the years when renting a car while traveling – hopefully, they’ll save you some headaches.

Check the deposit requirements – And make sure the main driver has a credit card on hand – that’s a must.
Choose a Full-to-Full fuel policy – Trust me, it’s the best way to avoid those sneaky, over-the-top fuel charges.
Look for unlimited mileage – Especially if you’re going on a longer road trip. You don’t want to worry about hitting a limit halfway through.
Read the pick-up instructions carefully – It’s always worth knowing where and how to get your car without extra stress.
Pay attention to the pick-up location – I always find it more convenient to grab the car right from the terminal instead of dealing with shuttle buses.
Do a damage check – Before you drive off, give the car a good look and document any scratches or dents. It’s saved me from extra charges a few times!
